ARE
YOU LOOKING FOR MERCY?
By Dr. William T. Kidd
If we look at Jude v21, "Keep yourselves
in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our lord Jesus Christ unto eternal
life"
1.
We are told in the first part of the verse to, "keep
ourselves in the love of GOD" this is not the love God has to us,
but the love we have to Him. We are to be in love with God, because
God's love is constant, but our love changes
2.
4he second part of the verse is, "And keep looking for mercy
of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life" We are to keep looking for
mercy from God even until we reach eternity. There are two important things to
consider in this part of the verse. The first one is this, look for mercy from
God. Why from God? Where else is your mercy going to come from? Nobody else
cares if you need mercy or not. Besides that who else could supply mercy
but God. The second thing I want you to notice is we are to keep looking
until we reach eternal life. Why until eternal life? For two reasons one
being while we are on this earth we will always need Gods mercy to meet
our needs. The other is once we get to eternity mercy will no longer he
needed or given. It will he time for heaven or hell and the choices will
be ours alone to make.
how do we keep ourselves in the love of God?
lets look at Due 6:46, "HEAR, 0
Israel: The Lord thy God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord
thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart."
Loving God is the greatest commandment ever
given. When this is our main objective to live for, to talk to, to
worship, to give all we can give not out of have to; but out of want
to and out of love. Then we are keeping ourselves in the love of
God.
Now that we are keeping ourselves in the
love of God. What Will God do? If we look to Hebrews 6:9-12 there is five things
we need to pay special attention to. "But beloved, we are persuaded better
things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. For
God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have
shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do
minister. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the
full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of
them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
1.
God is not unrighteous, and will not forget your work and labor of love.
The only things God will forget is your sins when you repent baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and have received the gift of
the Holy Ghost. God is omniscient all knowing and a just God. So if he says it
you can count on it.
2.
V.2 is telling us to keep on keeping on till the end of our journey,
Either by the grave or by the rapture. Just keep your eyes set on God and you
will reach the end of your race, with success and victory in Jesus.
3.
Don't be slothful or lazy, do what you can to worship and love God.
Remember Due 6:5 love God with all your might, you can't do that if your
lazy.
4.
We are to follow after faith and patience. God won't move without faith.
If you look back to the woman with the issue of blood. When she reached out to
God with faith she was healed. Did not Jesus say "go in peace thy faith has
made thee whole." We have to have faith and believe He hears our cries for
mercy, and will deliver us from our burdens. But we have to be patient because
he does not work in our time, but in his own time.
5.
And we will inherit the promises, mercy, healing, deliverance from a
trial, and most importantly salvation. Isn't salvation what mercy is all about?
If we look in 1st peter 2:9-10
"But ye area chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a
peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called
you out of darkness into his marvelous light: which in time past were not a
people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now
have obtained mercy.
See mercy is there but for Gods people.
When you become a child of God, He will have mercy on you. If you don't know God
then call out on his name and say, Jesus have mercy on me, I don't want to sin
anymore, I don't want misery anymore, I don't want to live without mercy
anymore.
Jesus have mercy on me and make me what I
should be!
So if you are looking for mercy, look to
God. As sure as He heard the cry of His people in Egyptian bondage, and
delivered them out from bondage. So shall he deliver you. After all he is the
same yesterday, today, and forever. The Alpha and the Omega and does not change.
So if you want mercy cry out to Jesus and he will deliver you.
